Southwold & surrounds
Poplar Hall is surrounded by beautiful countryside with quiet sandy beaches only two miles away and the beautiful English seaside town of Southwold just over three miles away. Southwold’s sand and pebble beach with colourful beach huts is a very popular local attraction. We’re also a short drive away from Walberswick where you can recapture childhood memories of crabbing or create new ones for the next generation. Walberswick also has a lovely sand beach for building castles or bathing in the sunshine. Once the capital of East Anglia and now mostly buried under the sea is Dunwich with it’s heathland (home to the rare Dartford Warbler), pebble beach, the The Ship Inn (yummy food), beachside fish and chip shop (summer only) and interesting mini-museum – again, it’s just a short drive away. Also nearby is the fabulous RSPB Minsmere Bird Reserve - home to bitterns, avocets and a hundreds of sea birds with interesting and varied nature trails through woodland, reedbeds and heathland. Grateful thanks to the very talented Dave Massey whose wonderful photos are used on this and the contact page.
The area is simply magical with marshes, meadows, historic towns, pretty villages, deserted beaches and spectacular sunsets.
This is an unchanged, unspoilt and unhurried part of the Suffolk coast. Time really has stood still in this peaceful and gentle corner of England. Come and explore, enjoy and relax.
