The Area
Poplar Hall Cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside with lovely walks straight from The Cottage's door. Quiet sandy beaches are only two miles away and the beautiful seaside town of Southwold is just over three miles away. We’re also a short drive away from Walberswick village where you can go crabbing, explore the marshes, or relax on the sandy beach.
Also a short drive away is the old capital of East Anglia, Dunwich – now mostly buried under the sea you can still explore its heathland (home to the rare Dartford Warbler), its pebble beach with beachside fish and chip shop, the Ship Inn, and an interesting mini-museum. A short drive away is the fabulous RSPB Minsmere Bird Reserve – home to bitterns, avocets, and hundreds of sea birds. Interesting and varied nature trails through woodland, reedbeds, and heathland.
The whole area is simply magical with marshes, meadows, historic towns, pretty villages, deserted beaches, and spectacular sunsets. This is an unchanged, unspoiled, and unhurried part of the Suffolk coast, time has stood still in this peaceful and gentle corner of England. Come and explore, enjoy, and relax.
